Amended trailer Script

Changes made to the trailer after second pitch and tutor feedback...

At the beginning of the animation I have included a page from the bible and the librarian studying so the audience understand that the librarian is studying the bible. I have also included her getting tired and then climbs down...this as been amended as per meeting with tutors the beginning needed defining and the relationship of the book to the librarian and the relativity to the animation. As discussed previously the bible is vitally relevant as the librarian is a scribe (a person who studies book) and the scene is to establish that she studies this book spending most of her time doing this.

I reached a bit of a brick wall as I wanted to portray the character studied this book most of her life....How am I going to be able to let the audience understand this in a two minute clip! The quick method of doing this is by animating the lighting to night and day by the passing of time...night and day.....This will show you the length of time she studies. However to show years a calendar can be added with years passing to current date. Does this really matter? In the animation I just want to show that she has been studying for a long time and that she gets tired and makes her way down the lectern. So I just added a clock with hands animated to each hour to show time passing.

Specialising:

I would like to specialise in Concept illustration and 2D/3D Character modelling.
Character Modelling and all processes to completing the character from concept to final piece. Model/texture/muscle formations/topology/ Blend Shapes/
My aim for this term is to really grasp and understand modelling a character this will go towards my portfolio/Show reel of Character concepts 2D and 3D.
I will also be designing character concepts for other projects such as Davids Character.
I will be experimenting with different camera shots looking at other animations and experimenting ideas for my trailer. Such as establishing shots, reaction shots, inserts, cutaways, POVs for my trailer.
I also would like to experiment with different lighting techniques to get the right feel for the animation.

Job: UV texture artist for Inside and outside environment. Joint job with Nathan Van Hesteran

Marios please familiarise yourself with the blog and story. Textures and look are included. I would like the environment to have a tone of realism but generically stylised. The look is old and worn out with autumn colours. Inky and to look as if it was painted in ink..kinda sludgy looking. Please feel free to model and object such as a book or books on a bookshelf and experiment with the overall texture and look.
I would appreciate it if you could send me a mood board of the final agreed style and look. Experiment by all means.
Guys if we can have examples ready for when we present to the class would be awesome.

Alex please familiarise yourself with the blog and story. And follow. The key action poses on the blog so please could you have a look and use a moom character to mimic the old eccentric librarian. Have a look at the story board that explains.

Please be aware of all the charcteristics such as hump back head heavy, rocking walk rather then bouncy etc. There is a lot of close up of facial poses such as shock, questioning, fed up, content, concentrating and fear. She has squinting eyes and big glasses.

Please could you have a demo animation of the character of the key shots ready to show for presentation. It would be great if you could have this done 2 weeks before hand in as lighting will need to be done.

Leonard/Shu please familiarise yourself with the blog and story. And follow. the key area I need you to concentrate on is the Section where the refil bottle of ink falls from the shelf to the floor and smashes on the floor the ink explodes and turns into white doves.

This formation will need an old bottle to be modelled (please find attached a picture of what the bottle should look like).
The bottle is made of glass thus showing the ink inside.
The label clearly states refill Ink.
The bottle is also used in other parts of the animation so continuity is crucial.
The bottle falls in slow motion first of all birds eye view then looking up at the bottle from below.
The bottle smashes.....glass breaks and the ink pours out and turns into doves as they fly up and around the librarian that is falling from the shelf. (please see storyboard)
The only example I can give is the Madonna frozen video where she turns into a black crow.

Post production stuff will also need to be done.

Please could you have a demo ready to show for presentation.

The owl is pretty much designed (concept pages). Go ahead and start modelling....The owl will have open wings when she gets excitable so beaware of this when it comes to the rigging. the head moves from side to side not all the way round and blinks. So they are pretty much the key poses for Owly...

Please can you have the model ready before hand in so we can show the the characters...

We will deffenatly meet up but I just need a week to get the animatics done and start modelling.

Basically I just need a short 2d animation of an autumn leaf slowly falling down. (Please see attachment). This is quite a key shot hun so I'll leave with you basically just want it in black and white and then eventually as it reaches the bottom in colour...but to tell you the truth we can probably do that in After Effects...The leaf can do a rhthmical dance as the howling wind moves it. The look is old and autumn colours with subdued colours.

Let me know how you get on to keep continuity.

Isabella and the pot of Basil is a painting by William Holman Hunt depicting a scene from John Keats poem of the same name. It depicts the heroine Isabella caressing the basil pot in which she had buried her murdered lover Lorenzos severed head. The emphasis on sensuality, rich colours and elaborate decorative objects reflects the growing aesthetic movement. I love the lighting in the shot emphasising shadow to give a sinister feel.

John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was born in Rome before studying painting in London. He was famous for his depictions of mythological female characters. I love the feeling portrayed in the characters the personality and composition. I love the composition of this painting. Looking as a spectator. Drawing you to look down at the body on the floor. The chaoticness of this painting is somewhat peaceful with the soft subdued pastel colours and the scattered pigeons.

I love the mood of this painting the composition draws you in to the suspicious women. The women on the floor in pastels and the lady that draws your attention in black making her stand out even more. I love the facial expression that she holds and the creeping posture that she holds which makes you feel that she is not sure or scared of something to appear.

Special Effects

The main piece for the animation is the black ink slowly falling from the shelf smashing to the floor and transforming into white doves....

Lighting Inspiration

This is the kind of glow that comes from the window. I would like. Lighting with fog in the evening.

Just looking at some texture ideas...I want the animation to look old with dust and texture...saturated colours burnt out. Quite grungy looking. And like its drawn...try out cell shaders to see what it looks like. Will need to take it into photoshop for a lot of the style.

This is the kind of look that I would like to go....Will have to speak to the lighting and texture guys see what they think...

After the last meeting I just want to go through the lighting kind of look for the animation.

We need to experiment with different texture looks but really want a burnt out look for the colours and to explore cell shading to see what the animation looks like in 2D.

This is an example of the reflections created by the candle glow and other lighting. The Lectern is made from polished wood. So the sheen of the objects on the table with the colours of the objects are important.

Environmental lighting just to show the kind of look that I want to go for inside the room. Warm caramel colours...

A good example of the light highlights and shadows from the candlelight. Chore which is around the hands, mouth and cheeks.....warm soft yellow, bright yellow, orange to brown......

I like the pinky tints merging with soft yellows and browns....

Candle light creates a warm gold glow on the book especially pay attention to the candle where the top his highlighted...custard/vanilla colour diffuses with bright yellow then dark orangyyellow.
This is an example of the kind of colours highlights and shades of the effect inside the room with the glow of candles.

Looking at lighting shadows and highlights from candlelight....Depending where the candle flame stands the glow creates shadow in the opposite direction. Highlights under the lids below cheeks under nose and top lip just under bottom lip and chin. Background dark emphasising effect.

Colours Warm glows reminds me of a glass of whisky....Dark Brown, orange, yellow, vanilla, lavender,indigo, browns shadows dark brown and indigo with highlights of lilac.....

I love the lighting in this piece. As the camera pans in to the window it gets clearer but the extreme hazy light angelic or ethereal in quality is exactly the kind of lighting I would like to achieve for the animation. I love the mix between highly 3D elements with simplicity of shape and style 2D of the character with exaggerated flowing hair. Contrast between nature and machine.

Museums and visits/Inspiration

Behind the scenes at maidstone museum. Shocked to hear that most museums has about 70 % of artifacts that dont even come out on the floor as there is no room.

Lighting inspiration

The scene takes place in the Evening, I just wanted to show the beam of light from dusk to give a spiritual enlightening effect.
