Window - Old farm house window with square windows and shutters.

This is the kind of cottage that I would like for this aniamtion Rustic very Hansel and Grettle. Stone path and big thick Chimney that stands pronounced from the building. Extremly pointy roof with wooden Jacobean slats around the house...16th Century type building ...very wonky....don't want any straight geommetric shapes....to give it a real rustic charm.

This is the type of broom that the librarian will be sweeping with.

Possible trailing plant over the Cottage.

This plant pot would be nice hanging from a branch next to the cottage.

Inspiration/Mood Board-Environment Inside room

Lots and lots of old books...the room is to look cluttered with lots of things...floor is made of wide oak slabs winw pine needles scattered around it...melted candles, barrells, old pots, canvasses, oil borner, owl, owl stand etc (please see list below)

I like the mood of this painting.
warm and dark.

The study room is to look like an old study room full of books and bottles, canvasses and lots of clutter.

Working drawings with poses that the character will perform in the animation. This particular concept drawing is for when the librarian is studying and turns to look at the book shelf. I used exaggerated perspective on the hand and basic forms to construct the geometry.

Old eccentric Librarian

An old lady supporting big reading glasses that rest half way down her nose. She has a pointy nose and squinting eyes. she has grey black bobbed hair very straight and non de-script. She walks slowly with a hunch back, has thin legs and wears below the new white cotton socks that sag due to lack of elasticity. She wears a cardigan over a shirt that has rounded scalloped collars. . A thin belt supports her waist. She has largish hands and feet. knobbly in appearance. Her daily routine is to sit at the top of an extremely tall pew finishing her book.

I chose a librarian for this character because I would love to be one...being surrounded by books would be my ideal environment as I love studying. A librarian is a professional trained in library and information science, which is the organization and management of information services or materials for those with information needs. This character is a depiction of a scribe - A proffesional person who writes books or documents by hand as a profession. One would think that this organised character would have a well organised, structured and routine based lifestyle where everything is organised and meticulously calculated. When you enter her room it is full of objects that are part of her life and comforts. Endless books organised in a disorderly fashion...bottle...candles...etc... This clutter of existence is where she can just be herself. She knows where everything is even if it appears cluttered and messy. It shows you that her time is focused on her one main role in life to write the book...This is why it is represented as some high pillar of a thrown because she is above all the clutter and she only concentrates on this book as it is such an effort to get to the top...even more so as she is getting older. Her grace is transformed to an old women of wisdom depicted not by what she says (as there is no dialogue) but the way she acts. Just by her appearance and actions. She ponders before she makes a decision and calculating thoughts are seen in her facial expressions before she makes a decision.

Owl

Old eccentric owl perched on the side head turns right round....makes a hooting sound when something is wrong. Speaks as the librarians conscious.

Read an interesting article about the Wise Old Owl Myth...Interesting why are we so fascinated with owls. Are owls really smart....The owl isn't really a wise bird at all. The owl has a small brain in comparison to its size. Other birds such as crows, ravens and geese are much smarter than owls.

Story

An old eccentric librarian, miniature in size. has a spiritual encounter from a leap of faith. Its a typical Autumn day the Librarian sweeps the leaves off her path outside and goes back inside to continue writing her book until she runs out of ink.......her life suddenly changes as she begins her spiritual journey.

Autumn leaves swirling in the air.....as the camera zooms out one begins to form the picture of the old lady sweeping the path to her house.

She turns around satisfied with the clearing then walks up the path to her house.

Close up of the door nob as she turns the handle and opens the door.

She walks up the stairs old and rickerty with creaking sound.

She closes the door

Old building with the sunlight coming through the window. As the camera slowly pans round the room you see old wooden shelves crammed with books and bottles and melted candles etc...(pretty much like my room).

Stands a really tall pew in the centre of the room of which the old lady has to climb up a tall old rickety ladder on the side to climb up to the pew(desk)

The old lady starts climbing the ladder to get to the desk which lies her book. The camera follows the old laddies shoes as she climbs the old rickety ladder.

As she climbs and sits onto her stool.

She looks at the book and prepares to write in it. Adjustment of her glasses and wiggles in chair to get comfortable. Blows a strand of hair to get out of her face.

She Starts writing and realises that she has run out of ink. She gives the pen a shake camera views the ink pot with no ink.

The camera pans to the shelf showing the ink jar full of black ink.

The old lady looks over to the ink pot and itches whilst thoughtfully considers what to do. She then looks down to the floor as she has to walk all the way down again.

As she looks to the floor the camera zooms from where she is perched to the floor then back again in quick succession dramatically depicting the distance to the floor.

She puts the pen in her mouth then tries to reach over to the ink jar.....the shelf is quite close and she considers reaching over to grab the ink jar. She's just that bit to far.....she leans over this time tilting her chair as she does so.....still can't reach.....reaches a little bit more rocking the chair a bit more........just a little bit more....she rocks chair to much and then falls of the chair!.......

She rocks to much causing her to slip of the chair she grabs onto the shelf! Birds eye view of looking down at the librarian as she is hanging off the shelf for dear life.

She looks down and the camera zooms to the floor grasping the distance which she could fall

From the floor to where the librarian hangs showing her dangling legs. She slowly creeps along the shelf knocking things over. She knocks the ink pot over. Thus looses her grip and falls with the ink pot.

Ink pot and the librarian fall in slow motion the camera zooms and pans with the pot as if you where just under it

Pot falls to the floor first smashes in slow motion

The black ink turns into lots of white doves as they fly up and wraps around the librarian...screen whites out...
